Der Mann trug blaue Turnschuhe der Marke Nike, kurze, helle Hosen und ein weißes Hemd, das viel zu groß gewesen war für seinen schmächtigen Körper. Er schwitzte, weil er die Treppe nehmen musste, da in meinem Haus keinerlei Aufzug existiert, weshalb das Haus nicht sehr beliebt ist bei Gästen und Boten. Meistens biete ich den hart arbeitenden Männern über die Funksprechanlage an, ihnen entgegenzukommen. Ich sage: Treffen wir uns im 11. Stock in 10 Minuten! Gestern aber war ich sehr müde gewesen. Ich trank einen Kaffee, telefonierte mit einer Behörde, und wartete dann still in aller Ruhe, bis der Mann bei mir oben unter dem Dach angekommen war. Es sind diese ersten Blicke, die ich nie vergesse. Der erschöpfte Bote öffnete seine Kühltasche und überreichte mir einen weiteren eisgekühlten weichen Behälter, in welchem sich nun unmittelbar ein Brief von Eis befand, den ich zunächst in meinen Gefrierschrank zu weiteren Eisbriefen und Eisbüchern legte. Kurz darauf setzte ich mich ins Treppenhaus und hörte dem jungen Mann bei seinem Abstieg zu. Er war sehr schnell unterwegs gewesen, er schien zu fliegen, stürzte im fünften oder sechsten Stock, Minuten lang war kein Laut zu hören, dann das Wimmern einer Ambulanz. Da saß ich längst in meiner Küche und las, was mir ein Freund notierte, wie er schrieb, mit großer Freude auf dem vergänglichsten Material, das ihm zur Verfügung stehe: Lieber Louis, dieser Brief ist geheim. Er wird sich auflösen, sobald oder bevor Du ihn gelesen haben wirst.
